Overview

The farm area of Eichethof, which is known for organic farming and the production of biogas, is located on the federal road to Hohenkammer. Organic farming as a supplier of food and energy is thus part of the Bavarian Cultural Landscape Program (KULAP) and is also financially supported by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and by the Free State of Bavaria (2014-2020). The ecological branches of the Eichethof can then be seen in the partial map on the right.

Organic farming and renewable energy at the Eichethof

Organic farming is practiced in several buildings on the Eichethof site. Angus cattle and chickens can be raised in barns, and seed processing is provided in warehouses. Many outdoor enclosures are provided for keeping free-range pigs. The solar power from the photovoltaic roof system can be used internally and also externally. In the scheme it is just as clearly recognisable by the arrows that cultivated organic grain is used for seed multiplication, at the same time this food can be used again in the castle kitchen, as well as for the animals from the farm. The biogas plant with its several tanks for fermentation, secondary fermentation and the storage of the fermentation residues can be seen at the southern end of the farm. The flow diagram on the far right shows the functional process of such a biogas plant: Discharged liquid manure, corn, clover grass and manure are transformed into biogas in the fermenter, which produces electricity and heat in a combined heat and power plant.
