Information
Organic farming has now established itself alongside the conventional methods of banana-growing. Leaders in this area are Ecuador and the Dominican Republic, which provide a large proportion of fair-trade bananas. The ecological type of production is characterised not only by the omission of chemical fertilisers and synthetic pesticides, but also by lower energy consumption during the production process and trading is also associated with lower CO? emissions.H.
